Flex your creative skills in the categories of Dance, Writing, Music, Photography, or Visual Arts and demonstrate your interpretation of this year’s theme, “I Matter Because…“
The submission period of the 2020 Reflections Arts Contest is now closed.
For the first time ever, Carlmont has entries in every category of the contest! Congratulations to everyone who has entered! Check back here for information about the exhibit of all the amazing pieces and performances which will take place in January.
The PTSA’s Reflections Art Contest is a great opportunity for Carlmont students to display their creativity in one of 6 categories: Art, Writing, Music, Dance, Photography, and Film.
Each entry must reflect this year’s theme, I Matter Because… which allows broad interpretation for you to create a really personal reflection in your chosen category!
Themes for the Reflections Arts Contest are chosen 2 years before each competition. Because of everything that is going on in the country regarding social justice, and the similarity of this year’s theme I Matter Because… to the Black Lives Matters movement, Reflections reached out to BLM leadership to make sure it was appropriate that we continue with our theme. They responded with enthusiastic support and are thrilled with our mission and purpose.
All submissions will be celebrated in an exhibit with the winners of each category continuing on to the District competition and potentially going on to State then Nationals.
The PTA Reflections Arts Program provides an opportunity for student creative work, inspired by a designated theme, to be recognized at the local, district, state, and national levels.
Students may submit original artwork in one of six areas:
- Film production
- Music composition
- Visual arts
For any questions, please contact Mandy Gibbs MandyGibbs@udque.com
All work should be specifically created for this competition with this theme.
Artworks are submitted first to school-level PTAs, where they are recognized, celebrated and judged by four grade-level divisions, while a non-judged Special Artists division celebrates student artists with special needs. Participants will receive a certificate of participation and a printed booklet of the writing and imagery of the show. A copy of this booklet and a show of the artwork and literature will go in the school library. A reception will be held after the new year, where videos and music will be on view as well.
School PTAs then choose a selection of entries to be judged by local PTA units, which are then sent on to councils and then districts for consideration. The final artworks submitted to California State PTA by districts are then considered for Awards of Excellence or Awards of Merit. Award of Excellence entries then go on to represent California in the final National PTA judging round. Please review general entry rules.
State-level Award of Excellence honorees receive:
- The opportunity to showcase their artwork at the California State PTA Convention
- Prizes including an Award of Excellence medal, certificate and a $100 savings bond presented on stage at the convention
- An expense-paid trip for the award-winning student and one parent/guardian to the convention.
